  • Emergency Broadband Benefit to learn about temporary discounts for households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic

On April 16, 2021, Governor Cuomo signed legislation that requires internet providers operating in New York State to offer $15/month high-speed internet to low-income families across the state. However, this law is not yet in effect.

Once the law goes into effect, customers who are income-eligible for any of the following benefits can receive the reduced rate:

  • Free or reduced-price school lunch
  • SNAP (food stamps)
  • Medicaid
  • Senior citizen or disability rent increase exemptions (SCRIE or DRIE)
  • An affordability benefit from a utility company

The State has launched the Affordable Broadband Portal to help New Yorkers find affordable broadband programs in their area.
