The Department of Education (DOE) provides Progress Reports on public school performance. Each school receives a letter grade (A, B, C, D, or F) based on the academic achievement and progress of students, as well as the results of a survey completed by parents, teachers, and students.

DOE also conducts Quality Reviews of public schools. These reviews examine how well each school is creating a plan to address its students' strengths and weaknesses.

Each year, the NYC School Survey gives parents, students in grades 6-12, teachers, and other Department of Education staff the opportunity to provide feedback about their school.

The 2021 NYC School Survey will open on May 10th and run through June 18th.

Survey topics include:

  • Student well-being
  • Communication
  • Culturally responsive education
  • Student engagement

Results from the survey are used to help measure school quality. School leaders will also use your feedback to reflect and make improvements to schools and programs.

The student's 9-digit student ID (OSIS) is required to take the survey. The OSIS number can be found on the student's report card, student ID card (if applicable), and on the student's NYC Schools Account. You can also reach out to the school to get it.

A survey should be completed for each child a parent has in school for grades 3K through 12. Families and students who need help with completing the survey should contact their school or parent coordinator.

Take the NYC School Survey.
